Three UCLA basketball players were recently arrested in China after they were accused of stealing designer sunglasses from a Louis Vuitton in China. The store which was located near to the team’s hotel in Hangzhou reported the incident to the local police after which 3 players were arrested.
Upon repeated requests from several Americans and an online petition, President Trump made a special request to Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to China early this month. The Chinese President accepted Donald Trump’s request and pardoned the players, who returned to the United States yesterday.
“Basketball players, by the way I know a lot of people were arrested. I will tell you what I know about it. Two days ago, I had a great conversation with President Xi. What they did was unfortunate, you know, you’re talking about very long prison sentences, they do not play games. He was terrific, and they are working on it right now, and hopefully everything is going to work out, and I know they were very grateful, because they were told exactly what happened. But, its a very very rough situation with what happened to them, and I was with them. President Xi has been very terrific on that subject, but that was not a good subject, its not something that should have happened, ” President Trump said in his statement to the media before he left China.

As soon as the players returned, they did not forget to thank President Trump for his kind actions. “I would like to thank President Trump and the United States government for the help that they’ve provided as well,” LiAngelo Bell, one of the three players said. The other two players, Jalen Hill and Cody Riley also conveyed their thanks to the President.
“To the three UCLA basketball players I say: You’re welcome, go out and give a big Thank You to President Xi Jinping of China who made your release possible and, HAVE A GREAT LIFE! Be careful, there are many pitfalls on the long and winding road of life,” President Trump said, giving the 3 youth an important life message.
Despite the basketball fraternity around the United States, especially the NBA, threatening to “kneel during the anthem” during their matches, President Trump forgave them and went on to help them out in the time of need. This shows how President Trump, irrespective of the views of any American, puts the country before himself and will help us in the time of need.
