A gunman killed at least four people in Northern California today. He had tried to attack an elementary school, but failed after the school went into a lock down procedure after hearing his car crashing on their front gate. Luckily, no children were killed in the shooting spree, and the police later neutralized the shooter.

The shooting took place in the close knit community in Northern California’s Rancho Tehama Reserve, which is about 130 miles North of Sacramento. The shooting took place at around 8.00 AM local time, said Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnson.

“The shooter literally took his vehicle and rammed their fence and gate, entered the grounds on foot with a semiautomatic rifle. It appears that because he couldn’t make access to any of the rooms — they were locked — that he gave it up and reentered the vehicle and then went on his killing spree and took it to the streets of Rancho Tehama. So I really want to say that the quick action of those school officials, there is no doubt in my mind based on the video that I saw, saved countless lives and children,” Johnson said in his statement to the media.

As per witnesses, the shooter first tired to enter the school and shoot children. In this attempt, one child was injured by him, and another child was injured when he shot a car and the shrapnel hit the child. But as soon as this failed, he went on the streets and started shooting random people.

The shooter was shooting anyone who came in his way. He was last chasing a car and shooting it, when police officials managed to stop him. He fired a couple of shots at the police officers before they could bring him down. He died on the spot after the police officials had no option but to fire.

A man who said he recognized the shooter identified him as “Kevin”. He said that for a few days now the shooter had been firing hundreds of bullets at home, firing at magazines. He further said that his room mate was one among the dead and the shooter had stolen his truck to commit the crime.

The witness also went on to tell that they had informed law enforcement authorities on several occasions that this man was “crazy”. In fact, the man was charged with assaulting a woman with a deadly weapon, and that woman is among the four dead today. A few people familiar about the development said that this could be an issue of drug abuse and a love failure.
