During President Donald Trump’s recent 13 day visit to Asia, he had Tweeted saying that a major announcement will be made as soon as he arrives in the United States. “I will be making a major statement from the @WhiteHouse upon my return to D.C.,” President Trump had Tweeted on November 14, 2017.
Just a day after his arrival, the Department of Justice has made a huge announcement regarding Sanctuary Cities, and the liberals have gone insane after hearing this news. The announcement tightens the noose around Sanctuary Cities and will surely make a huge difference in Making America Great Again.
The Depart of Justice has informed officials from 29 Sanctuary Cities including Illinois, Oregon, and Vermont among others. These cities were asked to scrap all laws policies and practices that violate federal immigration laws, and that’s not all, they have been given an ultimatum to comply with the ruling or face severe action.
The said cities were asked to comply with Section 1373 of the 8 United States Code by December 08, 2017. If the cities fail to comply with the regulation with the said date, they will stop receiving million of dollars in funding which they currently get under the Edward Bryne Memorial Justice Assistance Program to support local law enforcement.
Section 1373 of the 8 United States Code says that the local authorities must share “information regarding the immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual” with federal authorities. This means that the local administration would now be forced to throw out illegal aliens in order to save themselves from any adverse ruling.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions who spoke about the DOJ’s decision said that it is high time that the said cities comply with the rules set forth by the DOJ.
“I urge all jurisdictions found to be potentially out of compliance in this preliminary review to reconsider their policies that undermine the safety of their residents. We urge jurisdictions to not only comply with Section 1373, but also to establish sensible and effective partnerships to properly process criminal aliens,” Sessions said in his statement.
The following cities and counties received the notice:
Illinois; Oregon; Vermont; the District of Columbia; Albany, N.Y.; Berkeley, Calif.; Bernalillo County, N.M.; Burlington, Vt.; Contra Costa County, Calif.; City and County of Denver, Colo.; Fremont, Calif.; Jackson, Miss.; King County, Wash.; Lawrence, Mass.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Louisville Metro, Ky.; Middlesex, N.J.; Monterey County, Calif.; Multnomah County, Ore.; Newark, N.J.; Riverside County, Calif.; Sacramento County, Calif.; City and County of San Francisco, Calif.; Santa Ana, Calif.; Santa Clara County, Calif.; Seattle, Wash.; Sonoma County, Calif.; Watsonville, Calif., and West Palm Beach, Fla.
The DOJ is very serious about this issue. In fact, the very same day that these notices went out, a federal judge issued an injunction after the DOJ stopped $1.6 million from being released to Philadelphia as a punishment for not complying with the immigration law.
