In another addition to the list of celebrities who have been accused of sexually assaulting is a famous NFL player. As per a report published by BuzzFeed News today, a female Uber driver has accused has accused Tampa Bay Buccaneera quarterback Jameis Winston of sexually assaulting her in 2016.
The female Uber driver claimed that Winston grabbed her crotch in a crowded taxi which she was driving. The incident allegedly took place in Scottsdale, Arizona in March 2016. The Uber driver who identifies herself as “Kate” says that as soon as Winston came in to her taxi, he insisted that they stop for food.
The driver then drove him to Los Betos Mexican Food, a drive through restaurant in Scottsdale. She said that as they were waiting in line to place the order, Winston grabbed her crotch for three to five seconds, and stopped only when she protested.
The NFL confirmed the story and also said that they have initiated an internal investigation against Winston based on the BuzzFeed News report.
Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers also responded and said, “We are in the process of obtaining further information regarding today’s media report. We take these matters seriously and are fully supportive of the investigation that is being conducted by the NFL,” in their statement.
Although Winston initially maintained silence about the incident, he later issued an official statement about the incident and claimed that it was all a made up story and nothing of the sort really transpired.
“A news organization has published a story about me regarding an alleged incident involving a female Uber driver from approximately two years ago. The story falsely accuses me of making inappropriate contact with this driver. I believe the driver was confused as to the number of passengers in the car and who was sitting next to her. The accusation is false, and given the nature of the allegation and increased awareness and consideration of these types of matters, I am addressing this false report immediately. At the time of the alleged incident, I denied the allegations to Uber, yet they still decided to suspend my account.
I am supportive of the national movement to raise awareness and develop better responses to the concerns of parties who find themselves in these types of situations, but this accusation is false. While I am certain that I did not make any inappropriate contact, I don’t want to engage in a battle with the driver and I regret if my demeanor or presence made her uncomfortable in any way,” Winston said in his statement.

Meanwhile, Uber also responded to requests for comments on the issue. They confirmed that such a report was filed with them, and after a preliminary investigation, they had permanently banned Winston from using their services.
This is not the first time for Winston. For a few months ago, Winston had settled a lawsuit with one Erica Kinsman who had accused Winston of raping her in 2012. Earlier in 2016, Florida State University too settled the lawsuit with her for $950,000 as they were accused along with Winston for not acting against the rape complaint.
